We went to the Natural History Museum yesterday. ("We" being me, Sky, Mum and my Godmother.)
We saw the big diplodocus skeleton replica in the entrance hall, and a couple of other dinosaur things (like something related to an armadillo).
My Godmother is rather...very...heck, what's the word? Well, she knows nothing about nature >.<
I had to tell her there weren't tigers in Africa, then she said she got mixed up with leopards. She thought the dinosaur-armadillo thing was some kind of tortoise and that the genet was a sort of cat. All right, admittedly, it does look a bit like one.
Then we went into the mammal section, where there were lots of stuffed animals - jaguar, cheetah, lion, hyena, armadillos etc.
I didn't know three-banded armadillos were that small. They're adorable <3
Next we went to the reptile section. Crocodiles, gharials, alligators etc were in the first part. My Godmother said she'd seen gharials in South America, but I guess she meant caimans. (Pretty hard to mix them up, but anyway.)
There was a chameleon skeleton ^.^ and two models. I'm so glad they got the feet right. Yes, I know, the NHM should but so many people who've actually seen chameleons in their own country don't.
There were lots of model snakes, which were really cute. Mum kept saying I shouldn't call them "cute" as most of them were deadly. Most of them weren't "deadly" or even venomous. She didn't understand that something can be cute and deadly at the same time *sigh*
Oh, and she kept saying that "people die all the time because of snakes" "don't go touching snakes because they're cute" "even experienced snake handlers get bitten and die" blablabla.
Apparently she doesn't understand that...
- Where ever she read most of that, it's not true.
- I'm not going to go handling snakes because they're cute, I'm not that stupid (unless I'm sure they're not venomous, of course)
- I'm apparently way more sensible than her because at least I know I should and shouldn't do
There was an amazing snake skeleton, too. It had so many ribs and vertebrae thingies!
Then we went and had an icecream, before leaving my Godmother and doing a bit o' shopping.
We went to Boots and got me some wrist-supporter-things. I'm wearing them now, they're pretty good.
Talking about it last night, Dad thought maybe they were hurting because I'd been doing too much typing...which is bad news >.<
Speaking of which, I'd better stop typing now before I damage myself :P
That happens a lot with me, when I say that snakes are adorable and then everyone is like," But they're VENOMOUS and venomous things can't be cute!"
ReplyDeleteI've held a cornsnake before. :3
When I was in first grade, my school's pet (it was a small school) was an old cornsnake named Simon who escaped a lot. XP
