First of all, I'll just mention that we're now at our granddad's.
Second of all, I just realised I didn't post anything about any mouse (re my last post) so you have no idea what mouse I'm talking about.
We were driving along, a little over a week ago, when Dad slowed down and said 'That cat's got a mouse.'
I said, 'Stop! Let me get it, please!'
So Dad stopped (yay) and I got out of the car and went towards prey and predator, expecting to have to wrestle with the cat - because when Humbug catches something you have to grab him and open his jaws, with him growling and thrashing around.
But this cat just looked at me and sat there for a few seconds, before walking off pretty casually.
So I grabbed the mouse and took it back to the car, beaming :P it wasn't harmed outwardly, but may have had something internal...
I found an un-opened packet of biscuits in the boot, opened it and took the biscuits out (they were in a plastic wrapper inside the cardboard box) and put the mouse, temporarily, in the box.
It was a small brown mouse, with big eyes...adorable :3
But we were going to a place nearby - a unused smallish warehouse thing - which we were renting part of and storing some of our stuff in and there wasn't a good place to release it.
At the storage place I found a larger, more suitable box to put it in.
After that we went to a restaurant-bar-thing to have a late supper, so I was able to give the mouse a few bits of bread, chips and steak. (Dad says rodents are very resilient and they know if they should eat something or not.)
Then we took it home and I put the box in the bedroom while I went to brush my teeth.
We'd decided to release it that night rather than tomorrow - I mainly agreed because (call me mean) if it did have some internal issues and died of it, I'd rather it didn't die in my care.
Anyway, while I was brushing my teeth, Dad brought two mattresses in from the car (that's what we'd been getting from the storage place) and knocked over the mouse-box by mistake.
So when we went to release it, we discovered it had escaped, probably under the bed. It seemed to be more of a house-mouse than a wild mouse...either way, it would have been fine.
The annoying thing is that since it was night time, I couldn't take a photo of it without the flash - and I didn't want to use the flash in case I gave it a heart attack. So no photos... *sigh*
Oh, and the "wren" I mentioned in the last post has turned out to be a redstart :P
You know our cat, Paws? Well, on March 25th 2013 she had three kittens (of which two died) - the remaining male, Mintus, we gave to our uncle's ex-partner. (Yeah, she's an ex now, drat them both.)
He's had a kitten!! Well, he's fathered one at any rate. We're not sure if the kitten's a male or female, but in colouring it takes after Paws :3
Our uncle may adopt it, or may try and find a home for it. I want it, but I don't want it because we're travelling around so much and it's still pretty small.
It's mother is a grey-blue cat belonging to our uncle's landlords, but they only own her officially, they don't feed her, as far as I know. The first time (I) discovered the kitten, it was rather friendly and mainly just curious. It's mother was rather annoyed though and growled and hissed at us. But we picked up the kitten and I took a few photos (which I'll post asap). We put it back - and the next time we looked for it, it scrambled away from us! Its mother'd been stuffing its head full of nasty ideas about humans... *sigh* But it's funny, because Paws' daughter-in-law is older than her :P
I have to go and do the washing up, so pip-pip.
Aww! I can't wait to see a picture! :3
